Helping children discover English through everyday experiences

Kita Glitzerfisch is looking for a warm, reliable and enthusiastic native English-speaking Childcare Assistant to join our team in a 40% - 50% position.

English is naturally integrated into the children’s daily routine at our childcare centre. In this role, you will communicate with the children consistently in English and help them develop an intuitive and positive relationship with the language.

English is not taught in the form of traditional classroom lessons. Instead, the children learn through everyday conversations, play, songs, stories, rhymes, movement, creative activities and shared experiences.

Your responsibilities

• Supporting the care, supervision and development of the children in their daily routine

• Communicating with the children consistently and naturally in English

• Introducing English through everyday situations, play and age-appropriate activities

• Planning and leading short, engaging activities in English

• Singing English songs and introducing rhymes, finger plays and movement games

• Reading and telling English stories and picture books

• Organising creative, musical and physical activities in English

• Supporting the children during free play, meals, outings, rest periods and daily routines

• Responding to the children’s individual ages, developmental stages, interests and needs

• Creating a warm, safe and encouraging environment in which children feel comfortable using and discovering English

• Working closely with the qualified childcare professionals and the group leader

• Supporting the implementation of the educational concept of Kita Glitzerfisch

• Contributing to the implementation of the daily and weekly programme

• Participating in team meetings and internal discussions

• Following the childcare centre’s quality, hygiene and safety standards

• Helping to maintain order, cleanliness and a pleasant environment within the group

• Supporting the team with general practical tasks arising during the childcare day

Essential requirements

Applications can only be considered if the following requirements are met:

• English is your native language

• You communicate naturally, confidently and in an age-appropriate manner in English

• You already have practical experience caring for or working with children

• You genuinely enjoy supporting children and introducing them to English through play and everyday interaction

• You are warm, patient, empathetic and respectful in your interactions with children

• You work responsibly, reliably and independently

• You enjoy working as part of a team and communicate openly and professionally

• You are flexible, resilient and able to remain calm in a lively childcare environment

• You are willing to follow and implement the educational concept and quality standards of Kita Glitzerfisch

• You have sufficient German-language skills to communicate with the team and respond appropriately in organisational or safety-related situations

• You are able to provide a current criminal record certificate and a Swiss special private extract required for working with children

A qualification in childcare, early childhood education or a related field is an advantage but is not essential. Your experience with children, personal suitability and ability to integrate English naturally into everyday childcare are particularly important to us.

You enjoy working as part of a team, take responsibility and actively contribute to everyday childcare. Even in busy or challenging situations, you remain calm, attentive and dependable.
